DIY Watering system for lawns

A watering system is an important consideration for anyone with a lawn and you may be surprised at how easy it is to install one yourself, even if you've never done it before.

In a majority of cases, when our customers tell us about problems they are having with their lawn, it can be traced back to ineffective watering, especially during the warmer months of the year. By installing a watering system you really do make it easy to evenly and regularly water your lawn without having to move sprinklers around or turn taps on and off.  By adding a small inexpensive tap timer, you can even control your system from your smartphone!

What's involved in installing an irrigation system?

There are 3 main areas to consider when installing an irrigation system, those being the planning, the design and the installation. The design of the system is the area where most people need some help - but that's where we come in. I'll talk a little more about that a bit later.

Planning:

There is a bit to consider here. You'll need to figure out what you want you're looking for. You can install pop up sprinklers or underground drippers. Would you like a manually controlled system or a computer-controlled system? Have a read of our blog to help you decide.

Design:

Once you know what you're looking for, you'll need to map out your area and come up with a game plan so you know what goes where. For example, you'll need to know where to place your sprinklers and how many sprinklers you can run at the same time. To make this simple we've come up with an online DIY irrigation planner tool.  Follow the steps on the planner to create a map of the area and to collect all the information needed to design the system. From there, either bring in or email the planner to us and we'll design the system for you. As part of our service to you, we'll provide you with a free, easy to follow plan showing you how to install your watering system along with a quote for the parts you'll need. The plan will be tailor-made to suit your specific requirements and conditions.

Installation:

To make the installation process as simple as possible, we've created a couple of videos to show you how it all goes together. The first video is for sprinkler installation. The second is for subsurface drip installation.

Have a watch of the video below for a step by step guide on installing a sprinkler system and discover how easy it is for yourself

If you have any questions along the way, whether it be understanding how it all goes together or finding yourself stuck during the installation process, we'll always be here to help you. We're open 6 days a week from 8.30 am till 5 pm to answer any questions you may have.  Give it a go, you might be surprised at how easy it is.
