Originally developed in the USA, TifTuf Bermuda (couch) has grown in popularity in Australia for its fine texture, drought tolerance, and traffic tolerance. Tiftuf has a spreading growth habit and performs well in sunny areas with regular wear and tear.

Characteristics
Low Water Use
Excellent drought tolerance is a key feature in couch grasses, and TifTuf is no exception. While it looks its best with weekly watering during the summer, it is tough enough to survive on South Australia's natural rainfall.
Self-Repairing
TifTuf has underground rhizomes and above-ground stolons that allow for quick self-repair and growth into bare areas. It has a short dormancy period that allows it to recover quickly from winter wear.
Fine Appearance
TifTuf has a fine leaf blade, and will reward regular maintenance with a dense, carpet-like appearance.
Maintenance
Mowing
TifTuf will require weekly mowing in summer, but no mowing during winter. It is best kept around 10-15mm tall for aesthetic purposes and to minimise thatch build-up.

Watering
While it can get by on the natural rainfall in South Australia, TifTuf will look its best when watered weekly in summer. Infrequent, deep water promotes deep rhizome growth and subsequent drought tolerance. TifTuf will thrive when it has the opportunity to dry out slightly between waters, as it prefers a hotter climate.
